The list of clergy interested in offering Sunday supply services is now Online and will be maintained HERE.

Supply clergy may be hard to arrange, particularly during the summer months and in certain geographic areas, such as in the western part of the diocese. If you have clergy friends who are looking for supply work, have them email Ms. Patty Leonard at pleonard@dioceseofnewark.org [It’s helpful if they have a car.]

In accordance with the canons, it is not necessary for clergy to be licensed to officiate, if they are performing as supply clergy for less than two months.

Sunday Services:

Supply clergy receive $200 for one service, plus $100 for each additional service. (eff. 01/08)

Weekday Services:

Supply clergy receive $100 per service, without sermon. (eff. 01/08)

Supply clergy should be reimbursed for mileage at the IRS approved mileage rate. In any year in which the total payments to any one individual exceed $600, a 1099 tax form must be provided at the end of the year, a copy of which is filed with the IRS.  Pension assessments are due for any individual who is paid $200 a month or more for three consecutive months.

For those supply clergy who so desire, this remuneration may be declared eligible for the clergy housing allowance exclusion upon the passage by the vestry of a resolution so designating.  (Diocesan Convention resolution, January 2002)

(Rev. 01/08)
